Middlemarch House, Coventry

A British NDT company,
in the same trade since 1985.

NDT Consultants Ltd was set up as a specialist non-destructive testing company and has stayed in that line of work ever since: teaching the people who inspect, inspecting the parts that matter, and advising the plants that run them. A BINDT-approved training provider and ISO 9001:2015 certified company, working from 10,000 sq ft of purpose-built space on Siskin Drive — a few minutes from the M6, between Birmingham and Coventry airports.

A sister company, GNAT Technologies, covers Asia from Bangalore.

The floors

Four floors of work,
one building.

A section through the company: train the people, test the parts, advise the plants, supply the kit. Each floor has its own gate — and something you take away with you.

  1. 01Train

Level 1 and Level 2 courses in Coventry, taught to NAS410/EN4179 and SNT-TC-1A, plus the examinations that follow them. BINDT-approved training organisation.

    You leave with

    A certificate.

  2. 02Test

Inspection and calibration from a team that includes NAS410/EN4179 and ASNT Level III engineers — radiography, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, penetrant and visual, in the facility or on your site.

    You leave with

A signed report — or a calibrated instrument.

  3. 03Advise

Level 3 consultancy and problem-solving: writing the procedures, choosing the method, helping a parts manufacturer reach NADCAP, or developing a technique that does not exist yet.

    You leave with

A procedure you can work to.

  4. 04Supply

Equipment, consumables and the calibration that keeps them honest: ultrasonic, radiographic and magnetic particle kit, films, chemicals and accessories.

    You leave with

    A product, in a box.

The ladder

What each level
is allowed to do.

Three rungs, drawn the way a plant manager needs them: the job each level signs for, and the exam that unlocks the next one.

  1. I

    Operator

Works to a written procedure, under supervision, and records what the procedure asks for. Carries out the test; does not decide what the result means.

    Unlocked by
A Level 1 course and examination in the method.
    You leave with
    A certificate.
  2. II

    Competent

Sets up and calibrates the equipment, runs the test, interprets the indications and writes the report against the acceptance criteria.

    Unlocked by
A Level 2 course and examination in the method.
    You leave with
    A report you can sign.
  3. III

    Approver

Writes and approves the written procedures, defines the technique, and carries the technical responsibility for the facility's NDT.

    Unlocked by
Level III consultancy, or an ASNT / NAS410/EN4179 Level III.
    You leave with
A procedure set, and a signature.

Level 1 and Level 2 courses run in Coventry, taught to NAS410/EN4179 and SNT-TC-1A. If you are not sure which rung your team is on, ask — that is what the Level 3s are for.

Where it goes

Seven sectors,
one set of methods.

The same eight methods travel across all of them — penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic, eddy current, digital and film radiography, acid etch, hardness and conductivity.
